Friday On The Road

Between 11 and 11:30 we stopped for a break and lunch just after the Tennessee and Virginia State line.

At 2:30 pm we stopped for gas just past Lexington, VA. We couldn’t connect to any internet but did try so we could update you all then.

We stopped at a rest area at 3:30pm, still in VA but not much longer.

Supper was at Friendly’s between 8:00 and 9:00pm in West Hazleton, PA. We really needed a change of scenery and a little break off the road. Soon after we got back on the road Shelby fell asleep and we hit road construction for about 10 miles in Wilkes-Barre, PA where we going only about 5 to 10 mph most of the time for about an hour.

And for you Uncle Pops….We’re fixin’ to git home….

Well we weren’t able to find any place to update on the road and when we arrived home just after 2:30am I was wayyyy to tired to update.

Thank you to everyone who checked in and followed our blog and shared our trip. We will be planning another trip for next year and we will once again share with everyone.

Thursday

Well today was our last full day here at the cabin. We went to a few stores this morning than right back to the cabin for a lazy day. Basically hung around, took one last dip in the hot tub and started packing. The thing that we have had to think of the most is how we are planning on getting all the grocerys home, hmmm....

Joe wants to be on the road by 9 so we may be home anywhere between 3 to 5 am on Saturday, I hope the earliest since I have to work Saturday evening.

Its been a great trip! I hope everyone who has followed has enjoyed our updates. If we can get signal on the road I'll try to update once more before our trip comes to a complete end.

Wednesday

Its been a long day but very worth it!!
Went to Georgia and saw Uncle Pops! It was really great to see him again and have some BBQ chicken on the grill and yummy potatoe salad. We weren't able to stay as long as we wanted but still a pleasure to be with him a while.
On the way back we saw a rainbow as well as several Elk grazing in the Smokey Mountains National Park in North Carolina.

Its late but it's time for Shelby's pizza and fries she helped cook.

Tuesday

Today we got up early to prepare supper in the crock pots, homemade baked beans and BBQ pulled pork. Then we packed a picnic lunch to have on our hike on Big Creek Trail in Mt. Sterling, NC! So much fun even though it was hot and humid, but so worth it to see the waterfall. Could have done without the snake crawling acrossed Joe’s foot. He yelled out so loud that I yelled. Katie’s guest on her foot was more welcome, a cute butterfly.

On our ride back to the cabin it started raining, down pouring actually. The best part about the ride was when we went through a large tunnel Shelby yelled out “We’re going through a tube like toothpaste”. By the time we got to the cabin the rain had ended.

The rest of the day we relaxed and taught the kids how to play pool.

Wait till you see the surprise we have in store for the post tomorrow…..

Monday

Today was basically a relaxing day. We went to a few shops, loved the one with the chair on top. Saw some nice local views and cute horses. Kate and I made homemade fried chicken, corn on the cob and pasta salad. Then finished off the day with sitting in the hot tub.
Tomorrow we go hiking in the smokey mountains...

Main floor

The girls room is on this level too and a wrap around deck.

18 hours!

Before we left Greenfield we gassed up and hit the highway at 7pm.

The next time we stopped for gas it was midnight and still had a 1/4 tank of gas, not bad! That was 45 miles north of Harrisburg, Pa.

Around 1am we stopped at a rest stop and sort of slept for about an hour then right back on the road, wasn't very comfortable trying to sleep sitting up.

Stopped again at 5am in Woodstock, Va at a Super Walmart so Joe could get a bit more sleep and the kids were wide awake so I took them into the store for an hour.

At 9am we ate at Shoney's and had a southern style breakfast buffet. That was in Salem, Va where we filled the tank again and posted our last blog.

Oh and btw, during that post we noticed it was only 62 degrees up there while it was 84 degrees in Va!!

Pictures of the cabin will be coming soon after we eat supper.

Long but fun night

We weren't able to update over night due to the laptop needing be charged but we are going to be stopping at a rest area soon to let you know where we have been and are right now.

We are almost in Tennessee though!!!

Planning stages

We actually have quite a bit planned already but we need to finalize a bit. We are staying in a 3 bedroom cabin near Pigeon Forge. It seems to have everything we need so that if we chose we could just stay there and enjoy our vacation but we are going to venture out and explore!

We leave in August for a week and will be leaving early in the evening and driving all night.

Expect updates often as we get further along.
